Stepping Back in Time

This past Saturday my little group journeyed to Bevagna and Assisi. Bevagna was a short stop in a past Roman town where they hold a medieval festival every summer. We went mainly to visit the medieval paper mill which still follows medieval techniques to make beautiful paper. It made me want to make all of my own paper for now on.

The secondary highlight of Bevagna was Orazio. What a funny looking cutie!

Then we settled back on our bus and headed to Assisi. Assisi is a town devoted to San Francesco (Saint Francis to the Americans who prefer to do things their own way). I may be a tad bit obsessed with him now and I may become Catholic just so that I can pray to be just like him. You enter the town to see the giant St. Peters Basilica, which holds San Francesco’s tomb. The town itself has taken on Francis’ love for charity and nature; it is full of organic and fair-trade shops. I was in heaven. Also I was struck by how clean the city is even though it is a tourist destination. If I were to move to Italy, I would move to Assisi and open up a gallery and knitting store. It would be beautiful.

Since it was one of the first sunny days we have had all semester, Hallie and I took a long sunbathing break at the top of the hill. So of course a photo shoot was bound to happen.
