The Gray and Rainy Days in Florence

3/14/2013

Well as the title states it rained everyday while in Florence and when I say rain what I really mean is pour. Even under the gloomy weather it was still beautiful  and interesting. My days were full of art and shopping. I saw the three Davids by Donatello, Verrochio and Michelangelo, all different and exquisite in their own ways. I also saw the three main Maesta’s  (aka Mary Enthroned) by Giotto, Cimabue and Duccio, it was exciting to be able to use my new found art history knowledge to compare the three and really understand the significance.

We climbed the camponille (the bell tower for all those not versed in art history or italian) and this was the view!

Here are pictures from our new favorite store that we luckily stumbled upon while lost; named UB Firenze. The walls were lined with rolls and rolls of old wall paper.

Though Florence is full of great sight seeing it is too busy and crowded for my liking. I was glad to get back to my quiet little Cortona
